Are Beavers relatives of Black Labs or Black Labs relatives of Beavers?

I have often believed that Jessie is some distant relative to the beaver. She likes nothing more than to find logs at the bottom of the river, drag them around and chew off any bits sticking out.
This weekend on our walk around the Isinglass River, I recorded her in action. She poked at this stick for a good 10 minutes when she found it before deciding to move it, this is the short version.
