What do Microsoft and the Chinese Olympics Committee have in common

Category

Why they both fake demos.  Microsoft used to give presentations where the presenter pretended to do a live demo, when in fact a video was playing and they moved their mouse as if giving it live, they also did a fake demo in the anti-trust lawsuit a few years back.

Which leads us to the Chinese Olympics, the footprint fireworks were prerecorded, and a young girl singing was replaced with a "prettier" one who mimed, aren't all kids cute, even ugly ones? So I have to wonder was there a miss-communication, surely they meant to replace Sarah Brightman, replace her with a better looking fake singer would never be a bad thing?

Gravatar Image2 - so Carl what's wrong with Sarah BrightmanEmoticon

Gravatar Image3 - @2 are you serious?

Gravatar Image4 - miss-communication ... is that like a misspelling?

Gravatar Image5 - @4 It's how FrankenNotes told me it was spelled.

miss-communication was ok
miscommunication was bad

Gravatar Image6 - According to the story in the NY Times, it was the party officials who demanded that they use the voice of the other, supposedly less pretty, girl.

Gravatar Image7 - Is the Olympics an excuse for thinly veiled racism? No one was hurt because the little girl mimed. They have put on a great show and as far as I can see done nothing the Americans or Europeans wouldn't have done. Wanting perfection in front of the world largest television audience doesn't seem a bad aspiration to me. Rant over Emoticon

Gravatar Image8 - @7 Not sure I follow Wayne, are you proposing this blog posting is racist or that the general attitude of the west is racist towards China?

I'm not sure I'd call the west racist, I think what's happening is that we're getting a wakeup call, that there is a country with over a billion people that are kicking our arses when it comes to work. Things are going to change, and not everyone is going to be impacted in a good way.

Basically market forces which has been so good to America, is about to be the thing that kicks America's but.

Gravatar Image9 - You misspelled butt. But it is ok.
