I got an email this morning from John Baxter

Category
asking me to b log about Jamie Oliver's (aka the naked chef) effort to feed school kids a healthy meal. A new TV show was started by Jamie to show how he could make school meals today for cheaper or at the same cost as the current providers and still make them healthy, tasty and fun. Sadly I have not managed to catch the show, but I am encouraged that someone is trying to challenge the system. I used to quite enjoy my school dinners, but that was when they were made from fresh ingredients and there were no signs of a chicken nugget, the only thing I would ask is that he doesn't try and bring back Liver and Onion, that is a meal I do not miss...

So if you think Jamie is onto something good, be sure to go by the Feed Me Better website, check it out and sign the petition.

as good as Sausage and Mash any day.
When was the last time you tried Liver and Onions Carl - I'll treat you to a home cooked one in June
Dad

Gravatar Image2 - That's it I'm never coming home. Last time I had liver and onions was 1982, and that was still too recent

Urgh that nasty texture...Now school mashed potatoes they were special, served from the ice cream scoop as little half spheres, and always a little peppery, excellent.

Now Semolina and Jam I could go for some of that too, that pink custard though, I can skip that.

Gravatar Image3 - Carl, you don't know what you are missing. Liver & Bacon, pink custard & chocolate sponge - fantastic! I have caught a couple of the programmes - Jamie swears a lot! But this week was brilliant, he took a load of kids that refused his food & showed them what KFC & McDonalds do to their food - tear off the best bits (probably sell it) & then strip the carcus of whats left, liquidize it, mix it with some fat, some chicken skin, and some filler (breadcrumbs or maize etc), add some preservatives & then shape it into a chicken leg shape(ish), cover it in batter & fry it - lovely!? (not) The kids nearly all threw up & didn't want to eat another McDonalds or KFC. Truth never hurt anyone.

Gravatar Image4 - Jamie's School Dinners has been an amazing series - agree with Mike about the mechanically recovered meat section - the kids faces were amazing when they saw the slurry they make nuggets and the infamous 'turkey twizzlers' from. They should make it a compulsury lesson in all schools. And now Jamie has over 100,000 signatures on the FMB petition even Tony Blair is taking notice.
