I thought Sametime had done poorly for the number sessions at this years Lotusphere...

then I looked at how many Quickplace (Team Workplace) has, in the voice of the Saturday football results:

Sametime 5, Team Workplace 2

Gravatar Image1 - Websphere portal - acting like Chelsea - following the adage: With enough money, you should be able to buy a championship - or just keep buying more advert space and try to convince everyone that you just have to drop Man U and support Chelsea...ooops Websphere.

Sorry, I should never be this bitter so close to Christmas.

Gravatar Image2 - Ah, last year too much of this, not enough of that... new agenda this year... similar "comments"... I guess people will never be completely happy Same thing each year for the opening general session/keynote... some people love it, others complain.

Gravatar Image3 - @Alan,

ummm..... aren't QuickPlace and Sametime two of your CORE products? I think 5 sessions for Sametime is OK, but two for QuickPlace does seem a bit weak. Maybe the QP developers are too busy fixing all the bugs in 6.5.1 release .

Gravatar Image4 - I tend to agree with Carl and Bruce that 2 is kind of slim, no matter what the numbers are for other things, Opening Session content aside.

Gravatar Image5 - @Alan,
I wasn't really moaning about the number sessions on Quickplace, I don't do anything with the product so I'm not too worried. It's well documented how much I don't believe IBM understands the power they have in Sametime that is being neglected for the "future". I was giving the score of 5 versus 2, to show that Sametime beat Quickplace

If I was a Quickplace customer, I think there are a few, then I wouldn't get a warm fuzzy feeling from seeing that number.

I think it's now very clear with the roadmap where Domino is playing in the future with Workplace, but things are very cloudy for the Domino companion products.

Gravatar Image6 - They are not cloudy at all... yep, there will be versions that match the Domino underpinnings for a while but everyone knows that all the effort is going into making the Workplace based equivalents feature equivalent. At that point, users can choose between the Domino or Workplace based products... oh... err.... and of course Live Communications etc because they've had plenty of time to catch up.

Speaking of the extended products, I'm happy to see the work done on the Workplace products because it does seem that it will be possible to do more with less servers (i.e. QP & ST today, still really need a server each... whereas LWP gives those two capabilities (well... sort of) plus Documents & Learning and that means a lot to smaller organisations.

You may be able to do more with less servers, but they have to be pretty big boxes to do it. May well be cheaper to buy a number of cheap win servers rather than the beasts that you need for Workplace

Gravatar Image8 - Funny cant see any Domino.Doc sessions, despite it being very widely deployed !
