Deep thought for the day...

QuickImage Category
Was toilet paper sheet size decided by a standards committee or market forces? We've all heard the stories of how the Space Shuttle rocket boosters size was defined by the width of a horses arse, but what about toilet paper, no I'm not saying that was defined by a horses arse but where did the toilet paper sheet size come from? Think about it, it's pretty much the same size all over the world (apart from those places that just give you a hose pipe), and they always seem to fit in the toilet paper holder no matter the vendor, so where did it start? Who defined it? Anyone know?

Gravatar Image1 - I can't believe there is a standard at all, at a world basis, but I'll bet, if there is none yet, EU will have a standard for this as well, as they also have for the flexure/bend for bananas.... Silly EU standardizing commitee....

Gravatar Image2 - Isn't that controlled by J2EE

Gravatar Image3 - If it was a European standard, then it would need a name change, and existing toilet paper could no longer be sold as "toilet paper", the number of performations required in the tear off would have to be studied by a committee, who would expense all the trips, and would need a trip to different countries to try out the different styles of paper.
