I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it...

The new bathroom sinks and tub had some stickers on them, why vendors can't use that easy to remove glue for stickers I have no idea.  Anyway, a few stickers were stuck on pretty good, hot water and soap were not removing them easily.  I then remembered on some BBC show with two cleaning old biddies that they had used mayonnaise to remove stickers from old MFI furniture.  Figuring I had nothing to lose I dolloped on some out of date mayonnaise (I think you can use current mayonnaise, it just happens the stuff in my fridge was past it's use by date) on the stickers and left for 15 mins.  Low and behold, come back with a damp cloth and the stuff came straight off.

Sadly their lessons on how to vacuum have not stuck in my head as clearly.

Gravatar Image1 - I've used 3-in-1 oil as an adhesive remover for years. I remember seeing a TV commercial last year for 3-in-1 where the "lady of the house" was using for lots of things and she used it for cleaning. It turns out the oil breaks down the adhesive and the soap will break down the oil.

But your first point is on target - why not use removable stickers in the first place !

Gravatar Image2 - I wouldn't be surprised if 1) the stickers that stick like that have a Harry Potter-level Sticking Charm on them are less expensive than their removable counterparts or 2) it's by design.

The products ship, are stored in less-than-ideal conditions, and may be there for a while... so having some perma-stick on the stickers would come in handy when you purchase a unit that's been sitting on a shelf for 4 years in the back of the store where it's cold and damp (I'm going for less-than-ideal here, bear with me...).
