My new toy...
Category High Res Flights
This weekend I signed the papers, handed over the money and had a check ride in this baby, a Piper Cherokee (PA28 180D), it's a seat of your pants 360 degree high resolution flying experience, in other words it's the real thing.
It's a little older than me and was born in 1968, it appears to be holding up much better than me, and has definitely had better maintenance. It's kept in a nice dry and out of the snow hangar at Portsmouth in NH (Pease) boy is that a long runway, at 11321ft (just over 2 miles) I could land and take off about 4 times before getting to the end. Today I went up in the plane and did a couple of hours flying with a Touch and Go up in Portland Maine, a few landings at Sanford Maine (where George W would land when visiting his parents in Kennebunk), and then back to Portsmouth. The weather today was glorious blue skies, about 32F/0F which was much much warmer than yesterday when I had originally planned to go flying. The plane has an electrically heated engine block whilst it is in the hangar, which means that you don't need to put a blower on the engine for 30-40 minutes before you take off. It's pretty much unplug it from the wall, do your pre-flight checks, pull it out the hangar, close the hangar door and start it up, believe me that is much wasier than having to get snow and ice of the wings and fuselage.
Jessie hasn't been up in it yet, but I'm looking forward to doing some flying with her and my brother in February when he visits.
