OpenOffice.org 3.0 downloaded three million times in first week.
Category OpenOffice
Interesting figures for the first weeks availability of OpenOffice 3.0. over three million downloads in the first week. The question I ask myself is, if you're a business that isn't using Notes, why would you choose to use IBM Lotus Symphony instead of OpenOffice? OpenOffice has more applications, is a later release of the code and loads significantly faster, plus you can get call based support from Sun for $19.99 a call, which is great for a small business, versus IBM who tells you to buy a license for a product that you may not use so you can get telephone support. Imagine, Microsoft could claim that IBM is counting licenses for something that people don't use.
OpenOffice 3.0 is available for Macintosh, Linux and Windows now. OpenOffice is completely open, you can see all the OpenOffice sourcecode if you wish to, you can if (you're crazy) even make your own modifications and build you own version. If you want to switch from Microsoft Office, then be sure to try out OpenOffice 3.0

OOO is great, but I do not see it displacing Office at enterprises over 500. Symphony will have success there while OOO will do well in the sub 250 range.
