Google Mobile providing awareness without a GPS

Category

Sometime today, Google will enable "My Location" services for mobile phone users even if they don't have a GPS.  The technology uses some trigonometry and triangulation magic  and the data from cell towers to calculate a cell phones position.

Google Maps for Mobile adds 'My Location' feature

Looking forward to seeing how well this works, it doesn't appear to have been enabled yet.

Gravatar Image1 - I don't want to spoil your fun but my last 3 Nokias did that. It's easy to develop a simple program to read the antenna and cell which the phone is connected to and do whatever you want. I used a pgm called miniGPS which would change the profile and turn off the ringer when I got to the office. Emoticon
