New York City on a Friday
Category None
I'm seeing a customer in New York City this Friday. Now Friday is never a day you really want to go into New York City on via car, so I've decided to take the train. I considered driving but gave up on that idea thinking about Friday evening traffic, so I then considered the plane. I wanted to fly from Manchester and direct flights came out to about $600, and down to $360 if I went via Pennsylvania and had stop over for a couple of hours, so I decided against that. I finally settled on trying the Amtrak Acela for the first time.
I'll be getting the bus from Portsmouth to South Station, so I'll have no parking fees. I decided to upgrade my tickets to first class so that I get my own power socket that I can plug my PC into. Combining the power outlet with the use of my phone as a network connection (which works great by the way and I average around 500kbs) I should also be pretty productive.
To get to my 11AM meeting I need to get up at 4am and I should be home by 8PM, the dog will pretty much think it's a regular day apart from she was fed an hour earlier than usual. All in all, my trip including Bus and Train comes to about $370, without the added hassles of driving to Manchester, standing in security lines and taking my shoes off.
