1 - Actually, I prefer to interpret the data is that people who are appartment dwellers, single, *and* travel or have primary interest in things like concerts, work longs hours at the office, spending time out 'on the town', etc, should not have pets because they would end up leaving them home alone for extended periods of time and thus not fair to the dogs.

So, I take it as a compliment that we dog owners tend to give quality time at home with our pets
