New Lotus Award (formerly know as beacon) category this year...
Category None
"Best OpenSource Notes/Domino Template"
This category is open to all open source Notes Domino Templates. Extra credit will be given to templates that work "out of the box", can be easily customized, easily translatable and contains code that is well documented. Special attention will be paid to templates that solve everyday business problems.
Now this isn't a real category for the Lotus Awards, although I have to believe if it was, it would help drive the effort for more templates. How much would it cost IBM? The cost of some crystal, as they're not going to ship the winning code, they don't need to certify it as IBMified and they have no legal risks as all they're doing is recognizing a template as being good, not endorsing it, or supporting it.
I've already made my other comments about this whole template topic on Ed's (Ed got his knickers in a bit of a twist on my response but appears to have taken some prozac now), Volker did a great job of summing up the topic. I still believe the real value for templates is for people doing demos, and if demos help sell more Notes/Domino that is good for everyone. Partners, customers, IBM, everyone.
