Turning off the Windows 2003 Server shutdown event tracker

If you're like me, you may have a few Windows Server images you use in VMWare and even a few real windows servers. Now if you're a large company with lots of people accessing the servers, tracking shutdowns and the reasons for them can be very helpful, for a smaller organization where you may only have 1 or 2 people accessing servers, the windows shutdown tracker can get very tiring. So if you're like me and want to turn it off, here are the instructions:

- Select Start, Run and enter GPEDIT.MSC and press OK
- In the group policy editor, expand Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, System
- In the list on the right double click on Display Shutdown Event Tracker
- Select Disabled and click OK
- Close the Group Policy Object Editor
Next time you shutdown you shouldn't be promtped for a reason.
