Google to search Sametime??
Category None
Google moves to expand its search empire - I think Sean Poulley has made a mis-istatement here, or the Globe has misquoted. I don't think you can search IM chats that are stored in your Notes client until Notes 7.0, also this isn't all your Sameitme chats just your Notes IM chats. This won't meet any compliance requirements, if you really want to capture everything Sametime chat for compliance archiving then take a look at www.IMtegrity.com
The last couple of lines do go a long way to explain why there are more 3rd party client plug-ins for Outlook versus Notes:
This is the reason you tend to see mobile device plugins, calendar etc. out on Outlook first, it's what allowed us to build the IM integration with Sametime into Outlook, which just wasn't possible to do with Notes, without core Notes code. Mind you, this is also what exposes Outlook to so many security hazards...

Office employees who use Microsoft Outlook software, rather than Lotus Notes, for e-mail and calendar functions also will be able to use Google Desktop Search for Enterprise to search their messages, though there is no formal agreement with Microsoft, as there is with IBM, Girouard said. He said Google was able to make its tool work as an Outlook plug-in because Microsoft has published applied program interfaces for the software to allow outside developers to build on it.

Getting them to is the other story, as they tend NOT to believe that its the dominant mail platform and/or they start off in SMB's where there's less domino.
My two-cents worth..
