I was riding on the Metro with the dog, when a couple of buskers came into our car. One was playng the accordian and the other was playing an instrument I hadn't seen before. basically it had four strings like a violin, was tuned like a violin, had a violin fingerboard and bow, but did not have a body, instead it had a horn. I did a bit of research and they are know as "Stroh" violins. I've decided at some point I should add one of these to my stringed instrument collection, it sounded quite full but a little more tinny to your regular violin (close to a cheap chinese violin sound). I may have to visit a few flea markets to see if there are any lying around...
