So now that Lotusphere is over

Category
and people have had time to reflect. Did anyone hear anything like a roadmap for Sametime mentioned? I didn't get to go to any sessions so don't know, I'm interested to know what's coming in the next versions, or has Sametime become the new SmartSuite ie it's not going away, btu don't expect anything exciting to happen to it? I'm sincerely interested to hear what people heard. The only things I heard were from the Sametime developers that came by my booth.

Gravatar Image1 - I did a "What's New in Lotus Instant Messaging and Web Conferencing and Lotus Team Workplace" session (and just emailed you the slides too BTW). We had about 500 people attend, I thnk it was Wednesday afternoon.

Gravatar Image2 - Thanks Steve, I'll be sure to check them over and report back.

Gravatar Image3 - Any chance to get this presentation ?

Gravatar Image5 - From what I heard and understood. Sametime had a future linked with Notes and Domino, but didn't have a real long term furture. This is because it is non-standards compliant. The Workplace messaging feature will not be compatible with Lotus Sametime and is standards based. That is the one that looked like there was more of a future.

However, I don't think Workplace is ready for primetime and probably won't be for at least a year if not longer.

I would like to know if anyone else heard this message or am I missing something.

Gravatar Image6 - The only piece I can add to that is from the Portal world. Currently, when you license Portal Extend, you also get a user license for ST for all your users to be used in the context of Portal.

Our IBM rep told us that starting with v6 of Portal, due this summer, we will have the option of using the Workplace Collaborative Services in place of either ST or QP; he wasn't aware of any migration system, though, which will be critical for the QP side of things. At some point in the future, this will become required. That's actually fine with me, since I'm running Portal on zLinux, and ST and QP are the only components that I have to run on Wintel boxes outside the mainframe.

Gravatar Image7 - Just a quickie, if you want to download the Lotusphere 2005 tracks/sessions then most of them are available here...

Gravatar Image8 - Doesn't look like to much is planned for poor old IMWC to me (based on the lotusphere prezos anyway). Bugga.
