Took a trip to Necco
Category None
Today on the way to the office I took a side trip to the Necco factory/candy store in Revere (it used to be just down the road to Lotus in Cambridge, but moved), the reason being that I read that they had new sayings for their 2004 "Sweethearts" sweets, and guess what one of them is "IM Me", so thinking about Lotusphere I thought wouldn't it be great to get a few thousand Sweethearts to have on the stand, the whole "IM Me" fits in with our Instant Messaging direction, and well everyone loves sweets at a tradeshow.
So I got there all excited to chat to the person in the shop about my exciting idea, to be confronted with a "jobs worth", "Sorry I just sell what we have in the shop", "Can I speak to someone that I could ask about sweethearts?", "I don't know", "Well do they do special bags of the candy?", "hhhhmmm, you could buy the boxes over their and pull out the ones you want". I had the feeling I was going no where fast so I asked if there was a manager, sadly she was off because of the cold weather and was home looking after the kids.
So where do I stand now? Well I managed to get the managers number and left a message and sent an email to their contact address on their website (which has to be one of the worst designed ever, they have buttons that on gifs that appear and disappear randomly), we will wait and see how responsive they can be...
So I can't finish with out saying this, there was a little girl in the store, and well she looked as happy as a kid in a Candy store. -groan-

Can I purchase Sweethearts with my own sayings on them?
We do produce custom conversation hearts (hearts with your own sayings). However, in order to purchase custom hearts, you must purchase a full production run of 3500 pounds......All sayings must be approved by Necco. The lead time for the hearts is five to six weeks.

Do you really like them? The Wafers that is, I had them once and thought them pretty tasteless.
