Shouldn't this be free?
Category Sametime Training
I got an email this morning from IBM (I think but not 100% sure, it's Greenhouse SPAM), promoting a new Sametime Training Webinar. The webinar looks great, but here's my gripe. Customers are trying to get their heads around Sametime 8.5 and the increased hardware requirements, installation, websphere environment etc. Surely it would have been smarter of IBM to offer this for free to existing and prospective customers? UPDATE I just want to add, it's great that IBM is thinking about this, there were days in IBMs dark Sametime past that they wouldn't have even thought of doing something like this.

Module 1 : Designing your Sametime 8.5 Infrastructure (Wes Morgan, L3 Service Specialist)
- Lotus
Sametime 8.5 brings a brand-new architecture to the world of online
conferencing. At the same time, hundreds of enterprises are looking to
Lotus Sametime as their instant messaging platform of choice. Lotus
Sametime's server architecture lends itself to almost any environment,
and this module will show you the tips and techniques you need to
design an initial Lotus Sametime deployment or an upgrade to your
existing collaboration infrastructure. We'll cover everything from
extranet deployments to connections to public IM networks, with mobile
concerns addressed to boot.
System Console: The New Browser-based Dashboard for Managing Your
Sametime Infrastructure (Michael Herring, Development Lead, SSC)
- The
Lotus Sametime System Console (SSC) provides a consolidated interface
for administration and deployment planning for all Lotus Sametime
products. In this module, you'll learn about the design of the System
Console, how the SSC manages all of the Lotus Sametime products, and
how to design the Lotus Sametime infrastructure for any organization by
running through the SSC guided activities.
Installation and Setup of IBM Lotus Sametime 8.5: From "Zero to Hero"
in under 2 Hours (Frank Altenburg, Sr Field Service Engineer)
- IBM
Lotus Sametime setup can be fast, smooth and easy when you know what
you are doing. 120 minutes is all it takes -- and we'll show you how.
The new server architecture of Lotus Sametime 8.5 offers so many more
options to deploy that it is not easy to know where to start. In this
session, we want to prove that it is possible to create a "proof of
concept" setup very quickly. We'll install all the new Lotus Sametime
8.5 components: Lotus Sametime System Console, Community Server, Proxy
Server, Meeting Server, Media Server and the new Lotus Sametime Connect
client. At the end of the module, you can experience how to maintain
and administer the whole environment from the new Lotus Sametime System
Console.
- Want
to add the Sametime System Console and other new 8.5 server components
into your existing Sametime infrastructure? The Post Installation
Tools provide an easy way to register your existing servers with the
System Console. After your existing infrastructure has been registered
using these tools, you can use the System Console to plan the roll out
of the new 8.5 server offerings like Meetings, Web based IM client, and
Audio/Video features, all seamlessly integrated into your existing
environment.

I agree it would be great if the Lotus technical people put on some free technical seminars for BP...

1. It isn't even free to business partners, and it is the only think I have been offered when asking about business partner enbablement with Sameteime 8.5
2. It has also been referenced in Gabriella's blog, but only around what are these tools they are offering in the last section?
{ Link }
So in conclusion, I believe it should be free especially if they want partners to help sell this stuff.
P.S. I am intending to attend if at all possible.

Sametime 8.5.1 is release today Aug 4. 2010.
My presentation
"Sametime 8.5.1 From Zero to Hero - Next Generation"
is ready as well. Much easier to install, much more tips and tricks and now it really works. (not in 2 hours, but in 3-4 for everyone without the "Cook-Show" trick)
Send me a note and you can get it.
Kind regards
Frank
