Epilio Translator for IBM Lotus Sametime

Category

We posted this one a while back and I totally forgot to blog about it, another free plug-in for Sametime.  This one is a translation plug-in that uses the Google translation web service.  Yuo can get it here: http://www.epilio.com/web/freedownloads.htm

The plug-in does require a direct connection to the internet to work (ie it won't work through proxies) and be aware that if you're using the translation service, your text is getting sent to Google for translation.  So if you're chatting about stuff that should be secure and not seen outside your organization, don't use it!  It does make for a good demo though.

Gravatar Image1 - There was a company that did this, without google, using websphere translation server i believe, but when i went to call them after LS08, they had gone under and that was not even a month later.
I have a client which might like this, if it works for them, but they use a proxy server I believe Emoticon

Gravatar Image2 - Hello Carl, this is a great idea (and a great implementation).

Anyway I've a question. When I checked it google was quite strict about the usage of their translate service in third party apps like this.

Has anything changed ?

Gravatar Image3 - cool stuff...

as we were the first company doing the translation with WTS (in 2004) there were couple of companies including IBM itself trying to sell the translation via Sametime. The company what Keith mentioned was called "Coda" - winning the beacon award for a cloned concept from us and became offsite 1 month later.

Anyway: our Sametime plugin/bot supports Google, WTS and some engines, supports Proxy server, and actually you can connect your Google/Yahoo/AOL/Jabber/Sametime messenger clients with each other and can use the translation engines mentioned above.

kind regards
Can
