A simple thing I do for taking notes

Category

I'm somebody that very rarely uses the Windows Start button, most of the applications I launch are found in my quick launch bar.  Something I use heavily is my Notes journal for quickly jotting down ideas, or cut and pasting something useful.  I like the free form style and with the Notes search I can easily find previous documents that I created, it kind of ties into the way my mind works (and how my desk looks) just a huge pile of stuff but I can still quickly find what I'm looking for.  Sometimes, and I know some people will find this hard to believe I am not in the Notes client but I still want quick access to create a new Journal entry.  I do this by having a shortcut on my quick launch bar.  The shortcut contents are nothing more than a Notes URL, for a new document in the journal, the URL is:

notes://DominoServerName/journal.nsf/JournalEntry?OpenForm

That's it, nothing else to it.   So whenever I am reading something useful, or just quickly want to jot down an idea I just click the link, fill in some notes and hit save and go back to what I was doing.

Gravatar Image1 - This is a great tip! I was fiddling with it but I was not able to find out how to make it use a local file ... do I need to spell out the whole file location?

Gravatar Image2 - Just read it in the help-file for the designer [{ Link }

Gravatar Image3 - @1 Take out the servername, for example:

{ Link }

So three slashes.

Gravatar Image4 - Carl Tyler - well I never. Came across your blog today by accident. How the devil are you? E-mail me immediately...

Gravatar Image5 - Wow, thanks for that great tip! It saves me a few clicks, as like you I'm quite often using the Journal to just "keep stuff" for later reference.
