Thank you Netflix

Category

As I've mentioned in the past, I'm a big fan of Netflix, and I'm even grandfathered it at an old monthly rate.  So today I was dissapointed to get this email from Netflix.
Dear Carl,

As you may know, Blu-ray movies are more expensive than standard definition movies. As a result, we're going to start charging $1 a month (plus applicable taxes), in addition to your monthly membership charge, for unlimited access to Blu-ray movies.

The additional charge for unlimited Blu-ray access will be automatically added to your next billing statement on or after November 5th, 2008 and will be referenced in your Membership Terms and Details. If you wish to continue getting Blu-ray movies for $1 a month more, you don't need to do anything. If not, you can remove Blu-ray access anytime by visiting Your Account at the Netflix website.

If you have questions about this change or need any assistance, please call us anytime at 1-888-638-3549.

Honestly I don't care about the cost of Blu-ray disks.  They've been coming down in cost and they have less of them to choose from than regular DVDs.  They've also managed to add instant play of some movies without additional cost.  What's to stop them sending me an email in a few days saying "As you know hostings costs are expensive".

So to show that I am not happy with them, I have changed my plan, so no longer will I pay them $16.99 + the new $1.00 fee, I will now pay them $8.99 a month instead.  I haven't actually sat down and watched a DVD in months, and my current rentals have just been sitting there, so this just made me make the move.

Gravatar Image1 - I've done the same.

This helped figure out how much you are actually paying per movie. Check it out:

Gravatar Image3 - I have Netflix as well and love the instant play feature though the offering of content is rather week there. Some interesting TV shows but otherwise it is not that great. I did watch Chariots of fire two days ago ... one of my all0-time favorite movies.
I have kids who ad to the slew of what we watch so the current plan (I don't have Blu-Ray at home) works for me quite well.
