Why is Notes 8 inconsistent?

Category

OK excuse me while I rant a little about Notes 8 (8.0.1to be precise), I thought one of the things about Notes 8 was supposed to be consistency?  I keep finding things that just seem dumb and make no sense.  Much of the inconsistencies revolve around the mail file, and I think they exist because Notes has kind of become a Frankenstein of a mail application with a mix of java stuff and standard notes stuff.  java views aren't Notes views and they have different behaviors.

Widgets were added to Notes 8.0.1, but their interface is inconsistent, why can't I create a widget for folders in my mail file, why isn't the widget button enabled for any item in my mail file? Why can't I hit a right mouse button "open designer" on a tab when I am in my mail file but I can when I am in a different database (sorry application)?

What's going on here, has Notes become a mish mash of eclipse plug-in and embedded notes client?  Why the inconsistency?  How do I add one of my mail folders to a widget?  Why does the address bar drop down no longer show Notes:// urls of documents the way it did before? How can I get a Notes URL now?  Why if I add a widget does my client go back to a blank blue page and I have to open my mail or another database to see them again?  Why do I have to delete my workspace folder to delete widgets that I no longer want?

OK this was a post from frustration of the inconsistencies in the Notes "come to Jesus" 8 client.  There are some cool things in Notes 8, but you better keep some band aids around as there are plenty rough edges to cut yourself on. Arggh I am frustrated.  Back to Notes Basic for a few hours to get my sanity back.

Gravatar Image1 - I hear ya on this one. I'm so scared to deploy the notes 8.0.1 client in our environment. We have over 15 PMR's to date related to client issues :(

I guess we will all have to wait and see what 8.0.2 or 8.5 has to offer

Gravatar Image2 - I am a "Notes 8 classic" user full time ... well, that is with the exception of using the improved DWA on my little XO. I liked the full N8 client but when I needed a full blown ST client, it was just too heavy running two Eclipse clients.

Gravatar Image3 - In Notes 8.0.1 you cannot "widgetize" a java view. We just didn't get to it in time. Emoticon

Gravatar Image4 - @3 Thanks Mary Beth. How can a user tell a Java view from a regular view?

Gravatar Image5 - Watch out, Carl...you may call down the wrath of Ed on yourself! Emoticon
