Let's see if I can get a really big comment thread going...

Category
Here's how it works, I start of by asking a question, anyone can answer the question with a comment, they then include in that comment another question, which anyone can answer and they in turn ask the next questions...I could end up with no comments, or I could end up with a few...

I have no rules about what the questions can be...

Q: What's the best ever TV show?

Comments

Gravatar Image1 - It's an interesting comment.

Anybody want to guess when some sort of 'limit' is reached and BlogSphere won't be able to display all the comments?

Gravatar Image2 - Well Declan has already messed it up!!

The best TV show was Alias...

Well, I'll ask Declan's question:

What will the limit be for the number of comments?

Gravatar Image3 - I've been watching this thing called "The Iraq War" on the CNN channel for a while now. It's pretty good drama, though a bit over the top. That guy they have playing the President clearly can't even read a script. Also, does anyone really believe a bunch of elected officials beholden to voters would be this stupid? Still, there's plenty of gunfire and explosions and a whole lot of angry people running around so of course it's great American television.

Gravatar Image4 - So Andrew is your question "does anyone really believe a bunch of elected officials beholden to voters would be this stupid?"

Gravatar Image5 - Of course - but where will it end ?

---* Bill

Gravatar Image6 - It will end when the sponsors won't pay for the commercials any more. Who are the sponsors?

Gravatar Image7 - M*A*S*H best ever TV show.

Gravatar Image8 - With the new series starting next week, 24 currently gets my vote.

New question

New Question

Who was your teenage pinup - eg. mine was Debbie Harry (when parallel lines was release first time arround)

Gravatar Image10 - My teenage pinup was a 386. Such power! Such speed! It fair made me giddy...

Next question: You can change one thing about yourself. What is it?

What is the worst film you have ever seen?

Gravatar Image12 - Worst Film: Star Crash ( 1979 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079946/ ). Saw it while we were living in Dubai, UAE. Just horrible. Funny now, though....

<br>favourite food?

Gravatar Image18 - Hey Carl, on your diet is the answer to this anything ?

Gravatar Image19 - Favourite food? That's a toughy it's a close call between Sausages, mash and gravy and buffalo wings. I would have to say the sausages and mash. I just can't get the right sausages here, and missing it more makes it more of a favourite.

Next question: If you won the big prize in the lottery would you stay in your job?

Gravatar Image20 - If I hit the lottery (and thus was set for life) I would take time off to finish the farm and then would likely find some philanthropic to do ... or go dog trialing for a while

On my current project, management's favorite 'motivational phrase' to get people to document their work is .."what would we do if tomorrow you hit the lottery or got hit by a bus ?"

Gravatar Image21 - I feel this is a trick question cause eather way "you" arent there so i belive the answer is..... Then they have to come up with a new project

My question is if u use 2000$ on microsoft certification exams you become a MCSE or something, if u use the 2000$ on IBM exams where do you end up?

Favorit beer?

Gravatar Image23 - 'Kanon' by Grolsch.

Don't drink too much of it too fast.

Why are american houses constructed mainly using wood, wouldn't concrete be better? (especially with those hurricanes/tornadoes and what notP

Gravatar Image24 - This is just a guess, but I think it's got to primarily be that concrete (and steel) construction is not cost effective for single-family home construction.

Speaking of houses, how did the gang on Friends afford those large apartments (that's "flats" to you, Carl ) in what was clearly quite a fashionable section of New York?

Gravatar Image25 - Home in the United States are manufactured from the most cost effective materials for the reagion as of about 150 years ago. Since that time, "tradition" has prevailed in maintaining geographic boundaries on manufactuing materials and architectural styles. As an example, homes in the north east are most often of wood construction. Wood was plentiful and local in the time before mass shipping capabilities of trains. Likewise, mud and related ingredients were previlent in the Virginia and North Carolina area. Brick homes are still common construction in the southern coastal regions with architecture to match.

Gravatar Image28 - "avourtite colour M&M?" - White

Gravatar Image29 - (forgot to ask a new question ...)

How old do you think Carl is ?

Gravatar Image30 - Best TV show: The Prisoner (followed then by, in order: Twin Peaks, Firefly, Carnivale, The Critic, Family Guy, Lost, Sports Night, Freaks and Geeks, and Rescue Me.) Alias is also a great show. I find 24 to be completely ridiculous.

Gravatar Image31 - Carl's not old

Why is the banner blank on the LS Online site?

Gravatar Image32 - BLACK ?! I just looked and it's pink !

So, new question, "what is the term for the non uniform shrinkage of lead in the old lead typesetting systems ?

(I thought I knew but my spelling is so bad, I could not google it to verify).

Gravatar Image33 - Wasn't referring to the color. Blank, as in no banner text.

Gravatar Image34 - yeah - realized "blank" not "black" (but can't edit posts after the fact. It was pink when I visited it.

Anyone know the word/phrase I was looking for - "he term for the non uniform shrinkage of lead in the old lead typesetting systems" ?

Gravatar Image35 - For Glen - an answer and a question in one -

would that be "badness"?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TeX

Gravatar Image36 - I was thinking of a word that sounds something like "scrumtion" but I have no idea what german spelling might be. When converting from lead typesetters, the system created words and phrases as bars of lead. The typist would sit at a machine and type in the words and then press a button and the machine would create a short bar of those letters. (In grade school, there was a guy in town who had one of these old machines in his barn and he would host field trips from the grade 4 or 5 and at the end, he would type in each student's name, and give then their name in lead type.)
Anyway, when I worked on newspaper pre-press software, we had a german customer that insisted we add a flag that enables a one-dimentional scaling of about 0.92 in the 'X' dimension on our output. We came to discover the newspaper was taking advantage of that shrinkage factor to squeeze in more text in less space!

New question - when creating an avatar for SecondLife, how similar or different would you make it's appearnace from your physical self ?
