What is "Sametime Blue"?

Category
Is it the code name for the next version of Sametime? Is it an internal IBM project revolving around Sametime? Could be an AKAX meeting client, perhaps an AJAX client? Perhaps it's the codename for the upcoming community stuff? Perhaps it's a new pain colour? Who knows? All I know is that in the last week we've had a great deal of web hits from IBMers searching for "Sametime Blue". Perhaps IBM are going to rename Sametime again? We'll have to wait and see if anything appears...

Gravatar Image1 - It's my understanding that ST Blue is Sametime 7.5 tweaked for the specificities of the IBM Internal implementation. (Plugins for our Whitepage apps, and other plug-ins for some of our specific internal Apps). So sorry to get your hopes down, but ST Blue is nothing to get excited about. IBMers are encouraged to install and use the ST Blue Build over the regulart ST 7.5 Build.

Gravatar Image2 - Joel is (mostly) right.
Sametime Blue is a standard ST7.5FP1 client. It however has a specific set of IBM plug-ins that interface with our internal applications. While it is internal only it is at the same time (pun intended) a kind of testbed for things to come (at least if you look at the list of plug-ins you *could* install). The most popular plug-in (autoinstalled) is the integration into our award winning (see http://www.nngroup.com/reports/intranet/2006/ ) blue pages (our people directory). If you grab an IBMer with an active VPN connection let him/her show you the Thinkbox plug-in.

Gravatar Image3 - See also the Community Tools on AlphaWorks.... Some of this will sound a lot like what's been bantered about for the future enhancements / extensions to Sametime for social networking type of activities.... http://www.alphaworks.ibm.com/tech/ict

Gravatar Image4 - More explanation on the name... we basically needed some way of differentiating the GA version of Sametime from the internal IBM build of Sametime (which as was pointed out above includes some custom plugins for the IBM environment, as well as beta code that will appear in the 1Q or future updates of Sametime). In the pre-GA days when we were doing regular updates, we used an alpha/beta/RC numbering scheme, but the prospects of a future numbered around Sametime Gold, Gold +1, Gold +2, etc. didn't seem to make as much sense.

But just because there isn't a larger implication to the "Sametime Blue" name, it doesn't mean that we don't have some cool stuff planned for future releases of Sametime.

Gravatar Image5 - So IBMers just need to learn how to search W3 vs Google for internal stuff
