This makes me laugh

This must have been a gutsy thing for Gartner to state, I mean lets look at how risky a statement that is by doing some simple maths.
Let's start by saying Sametime has 100 customers and 100% market share. OK easy so far.
Now Microsoft comes into the market, and sells 10 licenses and IBM also sells 10 licenses
Now the percentages looks like this: IBM 92%, Microsoft 8%
So as you can see IBM sold the same number of licenses as Microsoft, but Microsoft gained share. The key thing to remember is that even if IBM sold 10,000 licenses and Microsoft sold 1 license, IBM lost share. One of those statements that can't really be wrong unless Microsoft sell nothing.

If you follow Gartner at all, they are predicting that Sametime will lose market share to Microsoft over the next couple years.
