The weekend started well, I got back to New Hampshire quite comfortably in my first class seat and headed back to the house. I touched base with John Barrow (fellow redbook author) and invited him up to New Hampshire for what was left of the weekend. Got home and booted up my machine to catch up on some work, actually I attempted to bootup. The laptop was dead, a couple of whirs from the hard disk, but no POST screen at boot. Uh oh this isn't good and I head to England first thing Monday morning. I spent a couple of hours opening the case, reseating all the components, cleaning the mother board and fans of any dog hair (there was quite a lot in the PC) and tried again, no luck, dead dead dead. I decided I didn't have time to spend much more time on it, and headed out to Staples to get a new PC, so that I could get it running before heading out to London. Got the PC and picked John up and went for a couple of beers. Today I drove John around the shops as I fulfilled my shopping orders for people in the UK. Fortunately my dead laptop's hard drive is fine, so I have been able to move most files across without having to resort to a week old backup. I plan to spend more time trying to get the PC going again when I return from the UK.

Even with these last minute panics it was great to catch up with John and we exchanged some possible ideas for Redbook content that they are working on at the moment, should be good stuff.
