An emotional time

Category
Our office is located in the centre of downtown Durham, New Hampshire. Durham is home to the University of New Hampshire and our office is right in the middle of the town, so we can witness first hand the cycles of Durham life. Durham is normally a peaceful quiet place with very little traffic and not much going on. This week and a couple of other weeks each year that changes, this the new students are moving in, cars are lined up down the street, there are futons on every pavement and standing alongside every empty mini-van is a mother with their child crying their eyes out as their chick leaves there nests. Such a moving sight. In about 24 hours time, these kids are going to be hammered, Ace hardware will have sold out of all funnels and plastic tubing, they'll be blotto, smashed, drinking down as much beer and munching as much pizza as they possibly can, and they'll be thinking about their parents for ooh about a nano second during the whole process. God I love this time of year

Gravatar Image1 - When Anne Weaver Hart came to UNH the school was the 7th ranked party school, we fell off the chart for the last 4 years. She left this past year and the school is now back at #14.

Gravatar Image2 - And those same weeping parents are going to go home and make plans to turn their kids' old room into a craft room, or somesuch.

Gravatar Image3 - Yeah, a craft room to support the kid's college bills.

Carl: Do you ever go outside into that whole "blotto, smashed, drinking" frenzy?

Gravatar Image4 - @1 Josh, since you left it's down to #32

@2 Is "somesuch" a code word for bar

@3 As if I would ever do such a thing, when all those young women are so vulnerable and full of poor judgement and wearing beer goggles...

Gravatar Image5 - Are you implying that UNH students drink alcohol before they are 21? I'm shocked --SHOCKED -- at your irresponsible inference about my beloved alma mater. Luckily I graduated in 1980 when the drinking age was 18, so my roommates and I on Young Drive were actually abiding by the laws faithfully when we got blotto on Fort Schuyler and Red White & Blue beer, purchased in Portsmouth at $4/case.

I am positive no UNH student would break the law or act irresponsibly in any way.

Gravatar Image6 - ha ha u hav to be 21 to drink! no one wud last that long here!
