Happy Patriots Day!

Category
Today was the day that the famous shot heard round the world was fired. Well famous if you're an American. The shot has lost much of it's fame in the rest of the world. Today is also the 108th Boston marathon. Sadly my entry time was not quick enough so I had to skip running this year. Obviously my sister left last week, which means a huge improvement in the weather, we're expecting to hit he high 80s today.

Went for a nice long cycle ride yesterday followed by some fishing. Turns out all the back roads around me seem to have good looking fishing spots, concerning the cycle ride, I know it's obvious but until you get on the bike you always forget, if you go down a hill at some point you have to go back up it. For any Brits that ever come to the US and decide to rent a bike, there is an important difference you need to know, the back brake and front brake are back to front in the US. So the back brake is on the right handle and front brake is on the left. I have no idea why this difference exists, but it always takes you by surprise when you hit what you think is the back brake. Oh fishing I did catch something too, I caught a turtle. Not the easiest thing to get off a hook. I also saw a red squirrel, I can't remember ever seeing a red squirrel before apart from in books. In the UK Red Squirrels have pretty much been displaced by their American cousin the Grey Squirrel, yes Americans gave Brits, Potatoes to go with our fish, Tobacco, Grey Squirrels and Michael Jackson.

Gravatar Image1 - wow -- I remember seeing red squirrels in the UK, but you're right, now you mostly just see the grey ones.

Gravatar Image2 - The bike brakes - I'm sure the ones I bought in the states were the same as the UK. Whoever assembled yours must have got it wrong. Just swap the brake levers on the handle bar over Problem solved

Gravatar Image3 - Nope, not just mine. In the UK, the left brake handle does the rear brake, and the right handle the front. They are flipped around over here. The idea of just flipping the brake levers occurred to me too, sadly the gear change is integrated into the brake lever. Will involve undoing the cables, and probable flipping the front caliber around, so I will learn to brake with my right hand

Maybe you can get some of the Bruins to help you with the modification to your bike, since they won't be playing anymore hockey this season
