I've come to the conclusion that moving from Massachusetts to New Hampshire is almost as awkward as moving from England to France

Category
It's true the people in New Hampshire are more friendly than the French, but moving just an hours drive up the road, is almost as much work as moving from England to France, here's a few things that I have to do in my move:
  • Obtain new car insurance in New Hampshire (NH), and cancel the insurance in Massachusetts (MA).
  • Return MA plates and get NH plates, yes the "Live Free and Die" ones
  • Obtain NH driving license return MA one.
  • Inform Immigration that my permanent address is changing, so that when it's time for my vacation in Guantanamo they know where to find me.
  • Sort out new tax details for NH and let MA tax know that I no longer work in MA.
  • Get a gun rack, apparently it's part of the deal with crossing the state line
  • Seriously consider trading in my SUV for a flat bed truck
  • Start learning about chewing tobacco
  • Learn how to hit a Moose in a car safely
  • Learn to say "That's where the old man of the mountain used to be"
  • Learn to sleep with an eye open watching out for Canadian invaders

This is one of those things that often takes foreigners like myself by surprise, that America really is like 50 little countries stuck together, some with their own weird rules and others where anything goes, some places have more tax others less, some places sell alcohol on a Sunday some don't, you get the idea, anyway Americans pretend like they're one country but really they aren't

Gravatar Image1 - Carl, it's "Live Free OR Die", not "Live Free AND Die"!

People in NH feel the two are mutually exclusive.

I was very fortunate... I grew up in Groton, MA, which is right near the border of NH. I got to have the best of both worlds, including tax-free shopping. It was great for the really big purchases.

Where in NH are you? We used to go through all the time when we used to have land in VT. There's a lot of fun touristy-things to do. Clark's Trading Post is very cute (at least it was 15 years ago...), and Polar Caves was fun.
