Anyone for tennis?

QuickImage Category
This weekend I had a very dear friend staying with me from England. She plays tennis so we were able to get in some games, I'm relieved to say that I beat her. Now I've been on diversity training but somewhere deep down, in a part of my psyche that is very primal I cannot let myself be beaten by a girl, well not at tennis anyway, so this was a very important match. My tennis game isn't bad as long as my serve gets in and the other person doesn't hit the ball to where I'm not standing. In other words if you can make me run for the ball you'll most likely win.

The first set was won by my female opponent, which really kicked in my competitive spirit, so that meant I had to win the following two sets. We did make a strategic mistake of playing the game at about 12.30 which meant that serving from one side of the court was really hard, as you'd throw the ball up to server and be blinded by the sun.

This is one of the great things Ilike about the USA, you can find hundreds of tennis courtys lying around the city that are free to use. In England it costs you an arm a leg to join a tennis club, and then you have to remember weeks ahead to book it, so it's never easy to go for a spontaneous game. Here you just go along and tell the kids playing on the court you want to use that their mother is looking for them and you can get a court straight away.

Along with playing tennis we went to see a couple of movies, the first one we went to see was "The secret life of dentists", now I'm not a big fan of dentists, so I'm not sure what came over me to pick this one, but it pretty much bored the pants of me (2 out of 5), Dennis Leary had a funny part, but otherwise I couldn't see why this movie ever got a budget to be produced, I would not recommend this really not that interesting. The other movie we went to see was Seabiscuit (4 out of 5), I liked this, it was a little slow for the first 40 minutes building up to the main story, but then once it got going there were a few goosebump moments, so I'd highly recommend it.

Has anyone noticed how I can post just the greatest pictures along with my topics in the blog? There's a couple of things in this picture I really like...that's right the tennis racquet and the striped top.

Comments

Gravatar Image1 - Never was a great tennis player...the racket is bigger than I am But I do enjoy watching it once in a while.

Anna is one of my favorites (when it comes to watching the women tennis players) She definitely is the better looking of the bunch! ( I have to say so myself...and that's coming from a gir!!)

Gravatar Image2 - Gayle are you turning all lesbian? If so, Bruce is a lucky lucky man...I have to say If Stefi Graf with a pillow over her head is also exteremelly hot.

Wait what's that I hear? Oh it's the diversity police sirens...

Gravatar Image3 - You'll have to ask Bruce about whether he's a "lucky, lucky man"

Gravatar Image4 - She swings both ways Carl - forehand and backhand

Gravatar Image5 - I can't believe I am helping this thread ... but hey... check out Daniela Hantuchova and Justine Henin-Hardenne.

Gravatar Image6 - Your comments about courts being hard to find here in the UK as spot on. The few public ones there are tend to be pretty run down and packed during Wimbledon and the clubs as you say are expensive. No wonder we are shite at tennis and Americans tend to be pretty good at it...

We're better at curling and bowls though.

Gravatar Image7 - Oh my gosh, I'm so embarassed to be a part of this thread. But

Gravatar Image8 - Hey CNBC stole your tactics. During a particulary dry segment yesterday morning they put up a video of Anna and the talking head said they did it so people would pay attention. you're ahead of your time Carl !!!

Oh and by the way - there's no way Novak's embarassed about posting here <vbg> !!!
