Fishing Season Opener - The pleasures of living in the country
Category Fishing pond
At a town meeting last year I'd heard about a pond a couple of miles away from my house called Stonehouse Pond. Whenever I had driven by where the road was supposed to be, I'd look for the road, but never could find it. So today I decided to make a concerted effort to discover the place.
What a great spot, the road to the pond is missing it's sign which is why I've missed it on my other attempts. Today I was lucky enough to see somebody turn into what looked like a dirt track driveway with a canoe on the top of the car, and it was about where I had remembered the road being on the map so I decided to follow them. Fortunately it wasn't somebodies driveway and actually was the dirt road I wanted. After a few hundred yards, I started to come across trucks and cars parked along the side of the road and then a little car park with a large rock blocking further progress. I found a parking spot and scrambled over the rock to find a gorgeous pond.
Immediately Jessie was in and swimming around. There were a number of people fly fishing today as it was opening day of fishing season. Live bait and lures are currently banned from the pond so it's fly fishing only at the moment. There is something very relaxing about watching people fly fish, it just makes you want to take things slow.
On the other side of the pond is a huge granite rock face, it's possible to follow a trail around the pond to the other side. Ticks are already out, and the mozzies are just starting to get going so I took the opportunity to walk over there.
I'll be sure to take my sisters family to this place later this summer when they come to visit.
