This article Instant Message Spam Is Getting More Disruptive although factually correct is a little misleading, if you didn't know better you would assume that Instant Message Spam is coming into Claudia Siegel's desk via the Sametime server, whereas what is actually happening is that the user is logging on to Sametime using the Sametime Connect client, and they are using the AOL capabilities of the Sametime Connect client to also log onto AOL, so the SPIM Claudia is getting is not Sametime SPIM but AOL SPIM.

If you want to stop your users accessing public IM systems like AOL then there are solutions that can help limit their use, such as IMtegrity which can allow only certain individuals to have access etc.

2 - I thought the article was great Brian, I knew the API had been added so it's nice they published it. I believe that telephony and IM integration is going to be a big thing, especially when you start to see the phone state through IM too. So not only can you see me online, but you can also see if I am on the phone, off the phone redirecting to voicemail etc. Seriously, how many IMs start with, can I call you?

3 - I like the idea of application awareness too. The phone system could potentially route an incoming call to the best person available -- based on their on-line status.

What I really need is a Coffee Bot that tells me which break-room has the freshest coffee.
