Microsoft wins patent for IM activity notification

Category
Infoworld article states:
Microsoft Corp. has been awarded a patent for a feature in IM (instant messaging) that alerts a user when the person they are communicating with is inputting a message.

It says that Microsoft applied for the patent in December of 2002. This feature has been in Sametime since version 1 which was a good few years ago now. I think ICQ has had it for quite a while too. Hhhm, someone hasn't been doing their homework when looking for prior art...

It's also the type of thing the IBM team should be looking for constantly, but renaming products all the time can distract you a little I guess.
