Recently my sister had someone via match.com attempt to swindle her out of some money. Fortunately her brother is on to these bastards, and knows the tell tale signs. What are the tell tale signs?
* They typically don't live near you
* If you trace back the IP address of their emails, they come via AOL connections, yet have a different domain for their emails, or places in Nigeria (yes the same scum bags)
* The pictures they send you have perfect focus and look professionally done.
* The times you can speak to them are strange
* They have lots of excuses why they can't see you straight away.
* Then the big one, they need money for some emergency to see you, or a relative was hurt, or in the case my sister, he went to China to sort out a chemical delivery and got stuck with no money and could only get back once that was sorted out.
* When they need money they want it via Western Union the scammers favourite tool, they don't want it wired or paypal (typically, don't take that as a hard and fast rule)
So what did we do? Well I told my sister to tell him she had no money, but her brother had said he would help out... You can read the entire transcript here*

*please note my reference to religion is not to ridicule religion, but the scammers and the way they use it. No offense is meant to anyone.

Very interesting read how they work. I am amazed that some people will let someone who claims to be rich stay with them and spend all their money.
