« How to use audio/video in Sametime 8.5.x if you're behind the most basic of firewalls. | Main| Anyone getting confused by IBMs use of the word widget? »

To be able to use all the features, be sure you save your password?

Does anyone else have a fundamental issue with this dialog box that Sametime 8.5.1 shows if you don't save the password when you login?

What's the point of a password if I have to save it to use the thing? Sure people can have that option if they choose to take the security risk, but in this case if you dont save it, I lose the audio/video features, and it means I can logout, walk away from my desk and someone else can come along and log in as me?

This dialog will appear if you're using the Sametime 8.5.1 media server for audio/video, I don't think many people have complained about this yet, because of the issues related to media not yet working for most companies.  But I wonder how they will feel when more see it?

Interestingly enough, Sametime 8.5.1.1 client does not show this dialog it shows a dialog with a SIP communications error instead.

Have I missed something? Does anyone else think this is an issue?

Gravatar Image1 - It was a major issue for a contract I was recently on. Sametime support claims to have fixed the issue in 8.5.1.1 but I have yet to get it to work properly (including a hotfix they created). For what it's worth the password is stored encrypted (encryption strength depending on your Notes ID for the embedded Sametime client).

Gravatar Image2 - That's he whole idea behind SSO for systems like Quickr.. you're already authenticated but there are some features that seem to act as a different system.

Gravatar Image3 - @2 Ha...SSO is supposed to be fixed in version 8.5.2 (SSO between Community server and Media Server) I'll believe it when I see it working.

Gravatar Image4 - I am doing an install of 8.5.1.x right now and we aren't seeing that issue - others yes - that no.Emoticon

Gravatar Image5 - Are you using the media features Jonathon?

Gravatar Image7 - Had the same exact issue as Carl and was able to resolve this by switching the default Transport protocol of TLS to TCP in the Media Manager. To do so, I just followed the steps in Sametime Infocenter in the section "Changing the SIP transport protocol in the Sametime Media Manager". After making that change & restarting the Media Manager server, users not only no longer get that annoying prompt when leaving "Remember Password" unchecked but also are able to utilize the Media services through their Connect clients.
