It has only take about 10 years, but Sametime finally supports, wait for it....

Category
Yes, it's true a technote appeared on the IBM site this morning titled "Can Sametime work with Internet Site enabled?".  For the last 10 years the answer has been no, now with Sametime 8.5.1 the answer is yes.  This is great news, although to be honest, the issue is becoming less important as the web meeting components for Sametime have moved to Websphere, so unless you're using Sametime Classic meetings it really didn't matter much.

So thank you IBM for doing something I predicted you would never get around to doing, but please next time, do it it a little sooner.  Next thing you know, they'll fix the IBM extst.ibm.com server.

Update: Looks like I may have been a little over excited, the technote says "Beginning with Lotus Sametime 8.5.1, the Sametime server supports Internet Sites configuration using a single Internet Sites document. "  HHmm, so does this mean your Sametime server can only have one internet site configuration?  Kind of pointless then, unless you only need this because you want to run traveller or something on the server.

Update on the Update:
The 8.5.1 Sametime Community server can be configured with multiple Internet Sites. The Community server will refer to a single site, but the underlying Domino server can use as many Internet sites as needed

Gravatar Image1 - So should I keep the idea on IdeaJam open? Emoticon

Gravatar Image2 - Is QuickrD next?

Gravatar Image3 - Wait! Darren. What do you mean? Are you saying that QuickrD does not support internet site documents? I am struggling with that right now, and IBM tells me they are supported.

Gravatar Image4 - @Chris actually, they ARE supported. But not if you're using LDAP. { Link }

Gravatar Image5 - @4 So if you want sametime awareness in QuickrD you have to use LDAP, but that would then stop you being able to use Internet Site docs. Ah IBM we love you.

Gravatar Image6 - @5 IBM fixed that Carl. { Link } - "With the release of Lotus Quickr 8.1.0.2 (fix pack 2, which includes a fix for SPR# KABS7H7FTG), you can also use Domino authentication when Sametime awareness is enabled in Lotus Quickr."

Gravatar Image7 - @6 Thanks Chris, I was unaware they had done that.

Gravatar Image8 - @7 - yep, they're sneaky sometimes when they release significant changes into an MR... :)

Gravatar Image9 - The 8.5.1 Sametime Community server can be configured with multiple Internet Sites. The Community server will refer to a single site, but the underlying Domino server can use as many Internet sites as needed. We'll fix the technote.

Hope this helps clarify.

Gravatar Image10 - IBM demonstrates that it *can* join the dots in its giant hairball of platform/version interconnectedness.
