Is there a perfect balance between things working and not working?

Category
This weekend we got my player piano working again, then at about the exact same time my iPhone decided the only thing I should look at is a white screen, I reset it, restored it, still white.  I took the sim card from the iphone and put it in my old Samsung Windows Mobile phone.  Guess what, the Samsung booted up, got my emails and gave me appointment reminders with the option to snooze, god I miss that.  This got me wondering, is there always a 50/50 of devices working and not working?  One things breaks another comes to life?

We had a non-player piano growing up - it had been a player piano, but at some point in its life the mechanism had been removed - but the pedals and "secret compartment" that stored them were still there, and it was fun to lock the keys on unsuspecting friends and relatives when they went to try and play.

Now for your next trick, can you make it do this?
