Did apple designers use the iPhone?

Category
As I use the iPhone I have to wonder if their designers actually used it in their day to day lifes?  This weeks pain point is the option snooze a meeting reminder.  Most phones, PDAs,  devices that have calendars etc. have a snooze option for meeting reminders.  Not the iPhone, nope, no snooze option on meeting reminders that popup, why not?

I thought that with all the applications out there, there must have been someone that has developed an alternative front end or something for the calendar.  It turns out that isn't possible with the iPhone unless it's jail broken, as apple haven't exposed the Calendar interfaces in the SDK.  I'm not sure how that makes any sense really?  Mind you apple has never made any claims to be open.

Is the iPhone the emporer's new clothes?  Every one says it's great, and when you get one people start to go, oh yeah I know what you mean that sucks.  Someone said to me the iPhone is an iPod with a phone.  To be honest I really don't care about the iPod as I already have one, so maybe this isn't the phone for me.

Gravatar Image1 - It is easy to get bogged down in the details of what the iPhone does well and not so well. It remains overall the best mobile device I have ever used. There are so many things that I can do now that I could not do with my Blackberry that I tend to be forgiving of what I consider minor things like this.Emoticon

Gravatar Image2 - interesting - I guess I had not really attended to the built in apps. Then again, I have the iPod Touch and not an iPhone. I love it for the 3rd party apps. There again, it is saying something about the platform vs Apple's apps.

Gravatar Image3 - Speaking to your question about the Apple folks, I can positively confirm that finding an Apple employee without an iPhone is like finding a Microsoft employee who replaced Office with Symphony. I know, you were kidding. I suspect, though, that they don't use the calendar the same way you (and I) do - corporate culture is a funny thing.

Gravatar Image4 - Can't we all just be grateful that Batman saved us? Why do we as a society also have to pick holes in his methods and insist on seeing who's under the mask?

If meeting reminder behaviour is enough to put you off the iPhone, geeze! Hard to please much? What about the hundred other things it does better than any other mobile device out there?

The iPhone is world changer...Emoticon

Gravatar Image5 - Hey.. you complain too much, but I like your blog.

And, about iPhone, well, here in Brazil there are lots of sites comparing devices and softwares, feature by feature...and, iPhone (iPod also) is not the best choice for many reasons. Their competitors get better scores for usability, features, etc... iPhone only really beat them at popularity and design. BTW, it is too expensive around here also.Emoticon

Gravatar Image6 - @4 Batman saved us? I thought it was Spiderman Emoticon

Totally agree the iPhone was a game changer, it has made the other phone vendors wake up.

Meeting reminders enough to put me off, well if it means I forgot that million dollar contract call then it wouldn't be good.

As I said in my previous post, there are some things I really like about the phone, and other things I really disike about the phone. It's performing a fine balancing act right now.

I just think it's missing some basics, that I cant believe haven't driven others a little crazy.

@5 Me complain? No never, I just like to see things improve Emoticon

Gravatar Image7 - The newest iPhone commercial brags that their new model has COPY AND PASTE. (My Palm Treo 750 has copy/paste - Windows Mobile 6 (c)2007.)

Gravatar Image8 - I guess my expectations are a bit lowered since I never had a snooze button on my blackberry - either dismiss the item or open it, no snooze.

Gravatar Image9 - Now that I am a Herb Chambers in the making I need internet access at the car auctions to check vin #s and look at available cars in auction lanes. Carl which phone do you recommend.

1 - iPhone
2 - Windows Mobile phone
3 - Other

Gravatar Image10 - @9 for that Wassim I would recommend the iPhone.

Gravatar Image11 - I agree. The lack of a snooze on meeting reminders is a pain. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the phone but I REALLY miss the snooze on the meeting reminders. If I miss the first reminder I miss the meeting...not good! My old BlackJack sucks compared to the iPhone but at least it annoyed the crap out of me with my meeting reminders. Emoticon
Someone please come out with a APP replacement for it.

Gravatar Image12 - The lack of snooze is a real letdown for 'serious' users - I continue to be surprised several times a day as the pop-up fails to give this option...

A quick Google shows that this is also a big issue with many other useres, so very much hoping Apple is reading those posts.

And as for the fanboys in the thread: do you really have to react to every criticism of the iPhone by treating the writer like a heretic?! Yes, everybody knows it's a great platform, but even the best can be improved!

Gravatar Image13 - Omg hate hate hate this iPhone I just got! And yes, the lack of snooze feature is enough for me to think the iPhone is a joke! Really this should be a no brainer. My blackberry allowed me to snooze notifications until I completed them. I am puzzled as to why this can't be done on an iPhone. Like, really??? Lol. This phone is stylish and neat to play around on but that's about it. They spend a fortune on marketing and I seriously think that's why people love the iPhone. They were told to love it by all those fancy ads and thr eye pleasing interface. In my opinion it's ALL show! I'm throwing it against the wall and getting a droid! Emoticon
