For old former or current Lotus employees, some old video clips

Category

I found a couple of old videos I made in a box and decided they should be digitized.

This first one is a corporate video we used on a "Working Together" tour around the UK and a lot of trade shows, after a few days of hearing this video every 30 minutes it can get quite tiresome.  Armed with a video camera I decided to tweak it a little bit, for those interested the original version of the video is available at the video wing of the Lotus Museum

This video is the introduction video we made for Softeach 1996.  Softeach was an event held each year by one of the UKs largest resellers and was attended by channel folks and not regular end users.  This Softeach we were pedaling Notes and it's disconnected web capabilites.  The intro video shows Notes 4 with components, hhm a composite app basically, the data in the chart refelected changes in the underlying Notes document and database.  This was the last thing I worked on in the UK before moving to Lotus US, I did the title slides and graphics using Autodesk Animator with whopping hi res of 320x200, the demo databases etc.  I still have the demo databases on a zipdisk, hhm maybe I'm a packrat, oh and yess that really piss poor acting is me.  I do have the entire event on video, but the session we recorded was actually the last event of the show, which means that it wasn't taken very seriously so there are some things done that don't make much sense.  For example I sat down to do my demonstration and someone had poured a few cups of water on it just before I presented so did a demo with a soaking arse, I think we also had hang overs.  I haven't converted all of that as I didn't feel the need.  Interestingly enough there was always part of the original video where I felt one shot was held for about 1/2 a second too long, with the original videos it would have either taken ages to fix or I would have lost one generation of quality in making the change, now that it's converted to digial it took me about 10 seconds to fix it.

This video is from a segment on a Lotus View "The video magainze for Lotus employees", someone somewhere decided it was a good idea to send a video every couple of months out to every Lotus employee (well the ones in North America).  This clip is from the 7th edition December 1998 and covers meetings.  God knows how I get sucked into these things. Yes that is Gloria Flaherty in the meeting.

Gravatar Image3 - So how did those ideas on penetrating the SMB market go?

Gravatar Image4 - @3 He said it was a key market opportunity, and that they would do great things, the rest is history Emoticon

Gravatar Image5 - Whoa - I thought I saw some product in there.

Gravatar Image6 - Jim Craig, Lorna Parker, Don Cowap plus a cast of other names I have sadly forgotten Emoticon. Nice memories, apart from that bloody music which for me (like you) is imprinted on my mind as I heard it every 30 minutes for several days of my life!

Gravatar Image7 - I remember those videos and at the time I was thinking, "We're spending money on this??? WHY????" Of course, I never actually looked at them. Now, it's pretty funny! Other stars I recognize in that last one: Cindy Bailen, Robin Rouse, David Taib, and that guy with the funny accent.
