VMWare is being added to Lotus Foundations servers
Category VMWare Foundations
IBM Expands Foundation Appliance Line, Adds Virtualization Through VMware Deal So you'll be able to load a Windows VMware image onto your IBM Foundations Linux box. Not sure if this overcomplicates Foundations, although it does mean that with a suitable powerful box, you could now run Domino in Foundations, Sametime in a VMWare Session, Asterisk PBX in another and have it all running on a single box. But then if you're capable of managing all those apps anyway, why wouldn't you just put them all in VMs, use ESXi and be done with Foundations?

A couple of points in favor of Foundations Vs ESXi:
1- Real disaster recovery backup (VMWare under IDB)
2- Simplified admin (external firewall, maybe integrated console)
3- Booster for ready-made virtual appliances
4- Foundations can STILL be your firewall/front-end server.
Complex point to solve for VMWare on foundations:
- Network config (DMZ vs Lan)
- Security rules
- Evolution of the backup/dr system to support VMWare snapshot
I think this "thing" is going a killer if well done.
Very positive about it.
