Many Americans don't know what Pantomime is.

Category

In the UK we have some traditions that are viewed by many American's that have visited the UK as slightly strange. Morris Men is one, but another tradition is Pantomimes.  Those that haven't visited the UK tend to have no idea what a Pantomime is.

I was chatting with somebody the other day who had no idea what Pantomime was, so I was trying to come up with something similar in the US.  The only thing I could really come up with was the US Presidential Candidate stump speeches.  It has all the makings of a fine pantomime, it has villains (the opposing parties candidate), it has customer interaction, instead of "Has anyone seen that big bad wolf" with the response "He's behind you!" we have "Has anyone seen Barry Hussein Obama" with the response "Terrorist, Kill him!", it's all there.   Instead of kids screaming on cue, we have grown adults waving signs on demand and clapping their hands like sealions at a Seaworld show, all hoping to catch the next fish.

So let's think about some traditional characters in Pantomimes and which of the US folks could play them, here are some ideas:

The Woodsman, the Sleeping Beauty Prince - Barrack Obama
Puss from Puss in Boots - Sarah Palin, come on we know she'd dress up well in that outfit (sorry Gab)
Grumpy from Snow White - John McCain
Mother Goose - Joe Biden
Ugly Sisters - Joe Scarborough and Bill O'Reilly

Gravatar Image1 - Brilliant!
While residing int he UK I wrote a pantomime for Purim one year for our shul.
I had to go buy a book on how to write one(I had some idea but as I like script writing, figured a little knowledge would be a good thing), but luckily the story works well for it.

I liked the Godfather myself, as to who that would be, hmmm, Bill Clinton perhaps?
