An example of how I can be such an idiot

Category

Last night I was trying to login to a Sametime server, I kept getting the server unavailable message. So I fired up remote desktop, looked at the server and everything looked fine.  Tried again, same message, OK let me try a different server, same message, hhm my firewall settings must have changed, checked them, nope looked the same, tried again, same message, disabled firewall, same message.  Have you worked out what I was doing wrong yet?  Restarted machine, no change.  Started Sametime with -clean, same message, arggh.  Took the dog for a walk and tried to login again, same message.  Light bulb goes off, and I say out loud, I am such an idiot.  Be sure you type the server name into the server field and the user name into the user name field and not the other way around, doh!

Gravatar Image1 - Yesterday I installed Notes R7 into my machine. I have installed earlier also R6 and R8 clients so I renamed R6 and R8 client directories before R7 isntallation. To be sure that my R8 notes.ini will be safe I renamed it also. After R7 installation I renamed back R6 and R8 folders and guess what? I wondered why my R8 client doesn't start. It took 10 minutes to figure out that I should rename R8's notes.ini back also and I was quite close to start R8 client reinstallation. So you aren't alone... Emoticon
