IBMs dirty little secret

Category

For the last few years, IBM has had a dirty little secret.  What is that secret? It's their external facing sametime extst.ibm.com gateway.  This gateway has been blogged about by some pretty popular IBMers on how customers and partners could use it to connect with IBMers and how cool it was.  Sadly however, none of those IBMers ever blogged about how IBMs setup is a big pile of stinking you know what.  In fact if George Bush was talking about it, he'd probably make a big speech about how it works wonderfully, there are no issues, it's never down and it's a huge success.  But we know the truth, we know it's never worked properly.

Now this has been no secret to IBM Lotus partners and a few customers who were early adopters, as we have been posting complaints about it for a long time to the IBM/Lotus Partner Forum, and you know what, we've all been good and towed the "good partner"  party line and none of us have blogged about it not working publicly, as frankly we partners are way more embarrassed about it than IBM.  So the other day Adam Gartenberg blogged about it saying how it had been up for 4 years, and a few of us partners made some sarcastic comments there and other blogs.

Mike Rhodin said recently "IM is more important to the company than e-mail. " I guess they want to be back using IM the way PROFS was used, only communicating with each other, don't want to be pestered by those nasty customers and partners.  Perhaps some of that $1billion could be spent on fixing this?

Today however, an IBM reference customer Mitch Cohen blogged about it openly, so the truth is out there, this thing sucks.  Would I really want IBM running my internal servers if they can't run their own?

IBM should shut it down, or as has been asked for year over year, fix it and assign someone with responsibility to handle it.

Gravatar Image1 - sip gateway can't handle the load ?.

Gravatar Image2 - @1 I don't think it's that. I think it's something else but not 100% sure.
