The Internets is broken

Category

Most likely I think one of the Internet pipes near my house is blocked with snow.  So I am working over dialup.  Can you believe this, they will have an engineer out to investigate the issue lunchtime Tuesday, YES, Tuesday, that's 6 days away!   Personally I'm hoping some snow will melt somewhere and the connection will magically reconnect, the guy on the end of the phone didn't think this likely as everyone else around me is working fine, ugh.  I think I'll be spending more time at a few customer offices this week.

My cell phone at home can only connect over Edge so no 3G speeds here, my connection is running at 122kbps down and 13kbps up.

Update: The Internet is back.  No one came out, it just started working again late last night.

Gravatar Image1 - Welcome to my world. Iv'e lost internet no less than 6 times since August. Twice it was back in about 24 hours. Once it took 12 days. I no longer wait to report a problem. If I detect an issue at 11 at night, I call right then because I know it will take them at least a full cycle of shifts to get things back. I don't have customer sites in my area so I am now map out all of the free WiFi spots - motels, coffee shops, etc.

Gravatar Image2 - That's a week without. I would definitely ask them to prorate your bill so that you aren't paying for the week you couldn't use.

Gravatar Image3 - Hmm, not to "plug" anyone, and the reason for the outage I recently had was shear stupidity on the part of Time-Warner Cable --- But, RoadRunner Business Class service had someone on-site and my service restored less than 90 minutes after I called.

Gravatar Image4 - That is why I pay for a commercial hook-up with my cable company. 24/7 support and they have people there the next day if something breaks at night (even on Sundays) . It costs me $99/month and includes one static IP but it is well worth it. I actually get people that pick up the phone at a support call, no going through 10 computer generated Q&A sessions before the nincompoop of the hour picks up and tells me he/she will escalate ...

Gravatar Image5 - @4 That is something I keep thinking about. This may move me to do it. They do have a package that comes for 99 bucks that does include 5 IP addresses too.
