Apple may make great software and hardware

but more often than not their documentation leaves a lot to be desired.  My Dad recently became the proud owner of a late Christmas present in the shape of an iTouch iPod.  But he had a challenge, he has wireless setup at home, but it is configured with 64bit WEP security (yes not the most secure, but adequate for his needs), his WEP key is a HEX key not a passphrase.  Well anyway, the iTouch sees the network, but won't take the wep hex key as the passphrase.  So how do you get connected, well it turns out, there is an undocumented way you can enter the wep hex key when it requests the passphrase, you enter the hex key preceded by a dollar $ sign.  Obvious.  Thanks to Google and not apple documentation for the answer.

Gravatar Image1 - I had this problem a few years ago when I still used WEP security for my WiFi signal. Slightly disappointing that Apple haven't improved the settings for this. It's just one of those things that you have to know, otherwise there is no help at all.
