Veterans and Remembrance Days

Category

Yesterday was Remembrance day in the UK and it's Veteran's day here in the US.  Many of you know that I was against us going to war with Iraq, but that does not mean that I don't support our troops.  In fact as I have written here before I don't believe enough of us are making any kind of sacrifice and life goes on as usual.

Whilst I disagree with why we are in Iraq and agree with why we are in Afghanistan, the women and men serving their countries are not the one's responsible for the decisions that have been made by a few, they are merely servants performing the jobs they took an oath to uphold.  Their careers bring them into great danger daily, putting their lives on the line, these are the real heroes, not the quarterbacks or goalies we see on TV, but our courageous neighbours who chose to serve their country, even when they return things are often never the same for them, whether they fought in the current wars or the second world war.  These people have or continue to put their lives on the line.

So today, if not on any other day, no matter what your view of the war, whilst you sit around and bitch about the cost of petrol, think of the real costs some families are paying, so please spare a thought for our veterans and the serving military.
