Xobni - Email Organization, search and navigation for the Outlook inbox.

Category
XOBNI is an interesting addin for Microsoft Outlook. I don't think the company has any future, but I think the idea does. The thing I find interesting about this, is it would make a great composite application example for Notes 8, so I started looking around to see if anyone had done anything like this, which lead me to find this article on IBMs developerworks: Smart Assistant a few more updates and that Smart Assistant could easily be doing the same as XOBNI for Notes.

One thing Notes people should be careful of is the constant claim that Outlook is closed, the templates can't be changed etc. and that Notes is the only email client in the world that can be. I'm not sure why this keeps getting said, as it does show a lack of knowledge on the subject, and if you come across someone that does know Outlook in depth it makes us look stupid. Outlook whilst many of the interfaces maybe proprietary (but most are now defacto standards) does have many different hooks for 3rd party developers, XOBNI is just another of many 3rd party apps for Outlook that shows how flexible it can be.
