One of the downsides to using hosted Exchange...

So I have been experimenting with different companies email hosting, this is the email I received this morning from the company hosting exchange, this whole process meant no email for yesterday, couldn't log in to read, couldn't login to send...

xxxxxxxx Hosted Exchange Customers,

Users receiving this email have their mailbox hosted on Exchange Server MAMMOTH.

  CAUSE OF OUTAGE

Yesterday, June 6, 2007 at approximately 10:30 a.m. ET xxxxxxxx Systems lost power to one of our rack enclosures hosting some Exchange and other servers.  Although power was restored with 90 minutes, Exchange server MAMMOTH experienced a corruption of its mailbox database when the server shut down unexpectedly.  xxxxxxxx engineers attempted to fix the corrupted database over the next few hours.  Fixing the database was not feasible.  As a result, we had to restore all mailbox databases from the previous night's backup.  Unfortunately,  when restores of this size are performed, it is a multi-hour process.

  MAILBOXES RESTORED

Mailboxes have been restored as of approximately 4:00 a.m. ET this morning, June 7, 2007.  Any emails that were sent to you after the outage occurred were delivered to your mailbox after the restore was completed.  We have other Exchange servers that receive email from the Internet and queue the email to user's mailboxes.  Due to the fact that we had to revert to last night's backup, any mail you may have sent or received between 10 p.m. the day prior and 10:30 a.m. on June 6, 2007 may be lost.  Protecting against data loss is one of our highest priorities.  We have numerous levels of protection that guard against data loss in almost every circumstance.

For a history of the outage and more information, you may visit http://www.xxxxxxxxsystems.com/support/.

xxxxxxxx engineers worked around the clock to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.  We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience and we are going to evaluate and make any changes necessary to avoid a recurrence of this problem.  We work hard to ensure you have the most reliable email service available.

If you have any questions or concerns, you may reply to this email.

  Thank you,
xxxxxxxx Support
