Presence and Real Time Collaboration in Lotus Notes using Microsoft Office Communicator 2005

Category
Gary Devendorf posts news that Microsoft has added support for presence in Notes applications. It can be considered good and bad for notes that Microsoft does this, it's good because there must be enough Notes customers who want it, it's bad because there is probably a really large Notes customer that has chosen OCS over Sametime which is justifying the effort.

Microsoft has updated it's tool kit to include utilities and documentation for adding OCS  "Presence" to Lotus Notes applicatons.  You will find 4 databases.  One is a sample Notes mail template with the presence control in the "Memo"  form.  Then there is a sample application with Forms and Views with "Presence".  Thirdly is a database for DBLookups of SIP IDs if you don't use e-mail addresses as your SIP ID.  Lastly is a database that installs the controls via Notes clients.   You will want to sign the databases.   So if you have Office Communications Server and Lotus Notes, all the work of linking the environments is done for you.
