I've recently been looking into purchasing a big flat screen TV

Category
During this hutning, it has become very clear to me that there are a number of companies out there gouging customers when it comes to HDTVs, PS3s, XBOX and their accessories.

For example, lets say you wanted a HDMI cable to connect a Playstation 3 to a HDTV (I have neither FYI), and you're in the store buying both. How much do the cables cost?
Circuit City: Monster Cable HDMI Cable - 6.6' (HDMI400-2M) : $129.99
Best Buy: Psyclone - HDMI Cable for PlayStation 3: $99.99
Staples: Monster 300 for HDMI® 2M Video Cable : $99.99

Also Flat panel wall mounts are ridiculously expensive for a piece pressed metal, averaging somewhere around $150 a piece. Do people have suckers stamped on their foreheads when they buy a HDTV? After a little hunting around, I found Monoprice.com, the cables are high quality and a much more realstic price example:

HDMI to HDMI CL2 Rated Cable (24AWG) w/ net jacket- 6ft (Gold Plated): $17.93

Need a wallmount for up to 165lbs? How about this one for $26.46, that's a big difference to this one at BestBuy for $179.99

The same thing has happened with network cables and USB cables, people are getting fleeced, so be sure to shop around if you're in the market for HDTV accessories, or computer cables, you do not need to be fleeced!

I'll let you know if I end up getting a Flat Screen HDTV, the wall mount and cabling has been fitted to the new house, and it would be a waste for it to sit not being used behind a photo or painting.

Gravatar Image1 - Thanks for the tips Carl - I really do like the user ratings at the monoPrice.com site. Big chains seem to be afraid to do that! I may be in the market for a couple TVs later this year - one smaller for the bedroom which will be mounted, and one larger for the family room. While I don't plan to mount it on the wall, I do have my eyes on something like this guy...first saw one at Costco...http://www.importadvantage.com/plasma-tv-lifts

Come on over, maybe you'll see it later this year

No, people are lazy or they want it now. Both of those selections cost you money. I have a store near me where I purchase all of my computer cables. 50 foot network cable? $12. Six foot USB cable? $3. Sure, it may be out of my way, but when I go there, I stock up.

Lazy=more revenue.

Gravatar Image6 - I just took the plunge Carl.

1 week ago. I picked a Samsung 46" LCD 1080p - it is an amazing looking piece of equipment. Would recommend it very highly.
